Biosphere 2

This 700,000 gallon tank resides in a glass dome at the American Earth system science research facility to study the body chemistry and shells of giant clams.

While the Biosphere receives a good amount of natural sunlight, researchers found that supplemental lighting was needed to meet the intense lighting requirements by the giant clams. Cielux fixtures were installed above the clams on a floating barge to ensure they had enough light while the sun sets outside of the biosphere. Cielux’s compact size and its ability to act as a single point light source proved to be the solution the clams needed. In addition, Cielux’s were chosen for their reliability to withstand the unique and harsh environment of the dome. The clams can be found thriving and showing excellent signs of health and growth with the incorporation of the Cielux fixtures.
